Shady Drug Lodges: Another Reason Not to Stay at a Motel

According to King 5 News and the Seattle Times, a drug bust of colossal proportions occurred at three motels located on Highway 99 in Tukwila, Washington. An armada of local law enforcement agents flooded the three establishments and began arresting suspects.

The raid was a result of monitoring the three shady lodges for over a year and having an insurmountable sum of evidence enough to make copious amounts of arrests. Such evidence gave leads that led to the prosecution of crimes including prostitution, rape, assault, drug trafficking, and robbery. According to the Tukwila police, so many illegal activities were occurring at the motels that these locations made up 17% of incoming 911 calls this past year.

Among those arrested were the three men who own these less-than-quality digs. Jenny Durkan, U.S. Attorney, said that the owners of the motels both permitted and participated in the criminal going-on’s occurring at their businesses. Travelers Choice (definitely wouldn’t be mine) Motel has been the site of three dead bodies in the past four years. Each of the deaths showed evidence of substance abuse.

“If you wanted a certain kind of drug you could go to room X. If you wanted a certain sexual activity go to a different room, and they would just take a cut,” Durkan said. People who wanted to use someone or abuse some drugs had to pay a cover of $10 in order to gain entrance, and upon receiving the payment, whomever was on duty would then direct the “client” to the room which best suited their needs. Since it was clear that the owners were dictating the rules, they were able to collect as much money as they wanted from the dealers, prostitutes, and the people seeking out their addictions.

Over 400 law enforcement agents were involved with the investigation.
