Fifth Grader Turns in his Mom and Dad’s Marijuana. Parents Get Misdemeanors.
October 18th, 2010
In the spirit of the Drug Abuse and Resistance Education (DARE) program at his school, an elementary school student from North Carolina turned in his own parents for harboring marijuana. After DARE, a program designed to give children the awareness of the dangers and illegality of drugs, held me workshops for the subject, the 11-year-old student, who will not be identified, brought a number of marijuana cigarettes to school. The student then gave the cigarettes to the school safety officer and told him that the drugs belonged to his parents.
The child’s 40-year-old father and 38-year-old mother were arrested later that day and charged with misdemeanor counts of possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
As a result of his parent’s charges, the child and his sibling were removed from his parents’ home and placed with relatives. The child’s father has told the media that he did not give drugs to his children.
