Hundred Tons of Marijuana Seized in Tijuana

October 20th, 2010

On Monday, Mexican officials seized more than 134 tons of Marijuana in Tijuana. This has already been called the largest drug bust in Mexican history. The drugs were seized after the police noticed a suspicious line of vehicles during a patrol. The officers were soon attacked but discovered the drugs.

The marijuana was en route towards the United State and was valued at $340 million. When inspected, the packages displayed logos for specific distributors in the U.S.

The Drugs were believed to belong to Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman, one of the leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel, otherwise known as the Pacific Cartel.

Eleven people were arrested in the aftermath for Drug trafficking. One officer and one suspect were injured.

The Calderon administration noted that it would help in the quest to financially cripple the Cartels in the Mexican War on Drugs. The administration intends to incinerate the marijuana on Wednesday afternoon at an army base in Tijuana.
