Medical Marijuana Approved in Tight Race in Arizona

Add Arizona to the list of states where Medical Marijuana is approved. In a closely contested race, voters approved Proposition 203 – a ballot measure that legalized medical marijuana in the state. More than 1.6 million votes were cast on the ballot, with 50.1 voting “yes” on the measure and 49.9 voting “no.” The margin was incredibly close – of about 4,300 votes, and the decision was announced weeks after the election had finished. 

The ballot itself would allow patients who suffer from cancer, AIDS, and other illnesses to have access to medical marijuana with a recommendation from their doctor. Similarly to California, The proposition allows the 120 state-regulated clinics that dispense marijuana to be established. Those that live more than 25 miles away from a clinic would be allowed to grow their own marijuana plants. As mentioned in an earlier blog post, the Arizona Government will need to adjust financially to this new measure.
