Convincing Someone You Love to Go To Rehab
November 6th, 2014
Maybe you know someone who is trying to pull themselves out of a drug addiction, and are badly in need treating their drug addiction. But the more and more you sit back and watch, you realize that they aren’t going to go to rehab…and that their drug addiction may only get worse. If you care about your friend or family member, then you should do what you can to convince them to go to rehab. Hopefully by the end of the conversation, you will have convinced them that treating their drug addiction is absolutely necessary.
The most important thing you can do is to have a one on one conversation with them. This means that you will have to pick the opportune moment to talk to them about attending rehab.
If they refuse, it could have been because you didn’t pick the right moment. Make sure that you pick a time and place that is comfortable and relaxing, and when it’s just the two of you so that no one else can intervene. You should also pick a time when your friend or family member is in the right mood.
When you do begin talking with them, you should be as honest with them as you possibly can. You also have to know what you are going to say. You don’t have to have a full script prepared, but you should at least have a general idea of what you want to tell this person you care about. However, you also can’t be weak in your conversation. You’ll need to draw the line somewhere, and will need to point out any excuses that they may bring up. You should also point out repeatedly how much you care for them, so that they know you’re not trying to control their lives. Lastly, you’ll also need to make them fully aware of the health consequences that can develop as a result of their addiction
