The intensive outpatient rehab process provides an effective combination of targeted and in-depth care for substance use disorder with flexibility, independence, and autonomy. It allows those suffering from mild to moderate substance use to get the care they need while maintaining their families, careers, and other lifestyle obligations. Intensive outpatient rehabs are an amplified version of their regular inpatient counterparts, providing intensive daily four to six-hour treatment sessions five to seven days per week for an average period of two to three months. As patients show progress in accordance with their program’s parameters, they may be able to step down to a regular outpatient model.

Data shows that the efficacy of intensive outpatient treatment rehabs is often comparable to that of residential programs; however, there may be times when it may not be enough.

Many intensive outpatient treatment facilities accept Medicare, Medicaid, and state subsidies to make treatment more accessible and affordable for patients and their loved ones.
