Halfway Houses

Addiction treatment and recovery look different for each individual patient. Very often, patients require a period of transitional assistance as they endeavor to get back on their feet and reintegrate themselves into their old lives. Halfway houses are transitional resources for individuals who have successfully completed treatment but still need help managing the lifestyle fallout occurring as a result of their prolonged and untreated substance abuse. They have been successful in helping patients regain their independence, relearn vital life skills, and cultivate a solid and vital support system from scratch, where one might not have previously existed in their lives.

What Happens in Halfway Houses?

Patients transition to halfway houses after receiving approval from their treatment center based on a number of pre-established criteria, including ongoing compliance with treatment, the demonstrated need for further assistance, and the resources to cultivate increased independence. Halfway houses are staffed with experienced and qualified supervisory personnel who ensure patients are fully compliant with the terms of their tenure in the program. While there, patients may receive ongoing ambulatory care as well as assistance with many other areas of their lives that may have suffered in the wake of their substance use, including family therapy, transportation to and from work, and other ancillary lifestyle therapies.
